Shoals Hospital was founded in 1968 by a group of physicians dedicated to serving residents of Colbert County. Today, the 178-bed, general acute care facility boasts spacious, private rooms for all patients, as well as a 24-hour Emergency Department; medical and oncology services; medical/surgical inpatient units; and an intensive care and short-stay surgery units. Shoals also operates the region's only in-patient acute rehabilitation facility and the Shoals Senior Care Center, a psychiatric unit dedicated to seniors. In addition to the 2011 J.D. Power award for Outstanding Patient Experience, Shoals Hospital is Joint Commission-accredited, is a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tier 1 Hospital, and has received a Blue Distinguished award in hip and knee replacements.
Shoals Hospital is committed to community education efforts, including a quarterly lecture series and ongoing immunization programs. At the facility's community health fairs, they provide a variety of health screenings, such as blood pressure, and cholesterol and blood glucose monitoring. In addition to providing excellent medical care, our employees continually participate in community service projects that involve raising money for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, the March of Dimes, and the United Way. We have a very active senior volunteer program, Helping Hands, which participates in activities both inside the hospital as well as in the larger Shoals community. Shoals Hospital employs over 300 people and has more than 100 physicians on staff. Along with Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital and ECM East, Shoals Hospital is an affiliate of RegionalCare Hospital Partners.
